Die Nikolaikirche ist die Šlteste Kirche Leipzigs. 1982 lud das protestantische Gotteshaus mit der damals hšchst selbstbewussten Aufforderung ãNikolaikirche Ð offen fŸr alleÒ jeden Montag zu den Friedensgebeten ein und wurde damit zum Ausgangspunkt der Friedlichen Revolution 1989. Zentrale Figur dieser Zeit war der hiesige Pfarrer Christian FŸhrer. / St. Nicholas Church is the oldest church in Leipzig. In 1982 the protestant church invited everyone with the very self-confident invitation ÒSt. Nicholas Church Ð open to everyoneÓ to pray for peace each Monday. It became the originator of the Peaceful Revolution in 1989. On October 9, 1989, 70,000 people would demonstrate for democracy in Leipzig«s city centre after the Monday prayer for peace in St. Nicholas Church.
